Choosing a business school is a very important decision in one’s career and future. One needs to consider a lot of parameters while selecting a B-school. I first penned downed my objectives. According to me, knowing what your priorities are and then settling on the B-school which best addresses these is the ideal way. I analyzed the selection of the B-school based on the following parameters:

1.      Learning experience

2.      Reputation of B-school

3.      Faculty background and experience

4.      Alumni network

5.      Placement statistics

6.      Value for money

7.      Location

My analysis was based on the research I had done by interacting with the alumni and present students of various B-schools and the umpteen surveys that I had come across. The outcome of my research, which I will explain in the points that follow, confirmed that JBIMS is the correct B-school for me.

It is important to keep in mind that an MBA is a means to an end – your career as a successful manager. If you are keen on preparing yourself for a global career from day one, then you are better served by going to a foreign institute. Else, you could also consider a career which starts with domestic companies or multinationals with presence in India and later seek mid-career international appointments. Indian B-schools are better suited to such an approach.

I chose the second option for my career path, so an Indian B-school was the correct choice for me. I feel studying in India equips you with knowledge that is both contextual as well as contemporary. Examples and case studies borrowed from other countries and cultures may be troublesome for managers to apply here. The classic example of Kellogg’s shows that a brand that is successful world over can fail in India if international tools and techniques are not adapted to suit the unique culture here. Only learning in India can endow you with this. At JBIMS, you get the best of both worlds. With great exposure to Indian industry, it provides huge opportunities in Indian market. On the other hand the International exposure that one gets during the summer and final placements makes sure that you get an opportunity to start an international career from the very beginning.

Research is given very high importance at JBIMS. We at JBIMS have a separate committee taking care of this need. Strategym is the annual business convention of JBIMS. The objective of this event is to provide a forum where the energy and research of youth share the limelight with the expertise and experience of the ‘Gurus’ of the industry. It attempts to synergize academia and hard-core experience, thereby bridging the Industry-Institute gap.

One of the biggest advantages of JBIMS is its prime location and the industry exposure we get because of it. It cannot get better than being closer to the ‘heart of commerce’ in India.

• Classes by industry leaders – The faculty here are one of the best in country. The Who’s who from corporate world come here at JBIMS to teach us. Any management student would aspire to learn from them.
• Seminars, guest lectures – These are co-curricular activities at JBIMS. • Summer internship is one of the most essential parts of management education. Concepts learnt in classroom are applied and tested during summer internship. The kind of profiles that are offered at JBIMS gives students a clear picture of their future. It also helped me to synergize my efforts with my goals.
• A wide gamut of profiles of every possible kind across all sectors and a plethora of offers to choose from has always been a highlight of placements at JBIMS. Placements have always been top notch not only in terms of salary but also the profiles offered. Top companies across all the sectors like investment banking, consulting, BFSI, sales and marketing visit JBIMS regularly. This makes sure that every student gets the profile of his or her choice during summer as well as final placements. JBIMS has always been among the crème-de-la-crème when placements are considered and this has been proven by fabulous placements year after year

Life at JBIMS is full of deadlines, assignments, presentations, guest lectures, etc. However we enjoy it immensely. The batch has diversity not only in terms of educational background but also work experiences. I am fortunate to get an opportunity to work with the cream of the country here. The Top 120 out of approximately 75000 applicants get admission to JBIMS, a acceptance ratio of 1 out of 700 which can beat any college in the country. In terms of Value Addition, JBIMS is peerless.

Location: JBIMS is located in one of the most sought after areas in Mumbai. South Mumbai is known for its happening night life, pool of food joints and hangout places. The best place around is the Marine Drive which needs no introduction. The location is something which anybody can just dream of.

Library is the most important part of infrastructure of any college and JBIMS has the best collection with over 40000 books and subscriptions to thousand of journals. Even senior managers of many companies are members of JBIMS library.

Use of internet is very essential for an MBA student and the Wi-Fi campus at JBIMS ensures that nobody misses an update on the real world even for a second.

Value for money is the Unique Selling Proposition of JBIMS. The fees are very reasonable and one of the lowest in country among B-schools in the same league. It ensures that talent is not rejected because of financial constraints. Also tie-ups with various banks provide numerous financing options for the students.

At JBIMS, eminent personalities of the industry come as visiting faculty and many others for guest lectures. The interaction we can thus have is absolutely unparalleled. Various committees and clubs at JBIMS help and encourage students to work on case studies. The success of JBIMS in the various intercollegiate competitions proves the mettle of students.

Today when I look back, I feel happy and satisfied with my decision of joining JBIMS. It’s a privilege and an honour to be studying in one the best B-schools in the country.
